Stanton paces Mustangs to 3rd place in NHC championships

Montville placed third in the girls division of the Northern Hills Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships contested at the Simon Center on the campus of Drew University in Madison on Saturday. Danielle Stanton turned in a silver medal effort in the 1600 meter run, posting a time of 5:46.42 and finished third in the 3200 meter run with a clocking of 13:29.05. Christina Ivy finished fourth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.02 and sprinted to a fifth place effort in the 55 meter dash, turning in a time of 8.08 seconds. Kim McClure placed fourth in the high jump as she cleared 4 feet, 6 inches while Stephanie Moore was sixth ion the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:05.68. The Mustangs 4 X 400 meter relay team took home bronze medals with a clocking of 4:35.64.
In the boys division, the Mustangs placed 11th out of 13 teams as Gary McGregor supplied all the points with a pair of fifth place finishes. He was timed in 4:45.36 for the 1600 meter run and clocked in 10:36.47 as he completed the 3200 meter run.
Christina Scherer competed in the Valentine Invitational at Drew University on Wednesday and placed sixth in the high jump by clearing 4 feet, 8 inches.
Montville dropped a 52-46 decision to DePaul in an NHC varsity girls basketball game played in Montville on Saturday. The teams battled to a 27-27 standoff through halftime before the Spartans went on an 11-6 run in the third quarter to claim the victory as the Mustangs dropped to 2-5. Danielle LaBonia topped Montville in scoring with 14 points while Courtney Cannella and Chrissy Carfello added 10 points apiece.
In a boys basketball matchup, DePaul edged the Mustangs 57-56 in Wayne. Montville moved out to an 11-5 lead in the opening quarter and the Mustangs led 29-21 at halftime before the Spartans rallied in the second half. Ed DeBarr paced Montville with 16 points that included a trio of treys with Ryan Smith adding 11 points that also included three bombs from outside the three-point permeter.

Levy, Voorhees honored as NJSIAA/ETS Scholar-Athlete

Seniors Jeremy Levy and Jennifer Voorhees were named NJSIAA-ETS Scholar-Athletes. The awards have been presented for 16 years with the honorees ranking in the top 10% of their senior class while earning at least two varsity letters and demonstrating outstanding qualities of leadership, character and service with the school and community.
