Compliments of Suburban Life |
| Montville crushed West Side/Newark 5-0 in an NHC boys' tennis match on Friday,
dropping only three games all afternoon in sweeping to straight set victories in all five matches. The win upped
the Mustangs overall record to 7-5. Simon Chiang coasted to a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Damian Powell in the meeting of first singles players while Matt Tanwan-Teng cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph against Olujuwan Soloman in the No. 2 singles slot. From there on, it was all blanks with Mike Tsang breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 win over Horace Mantok at third singles. In the doubles competition, the Mustangs No. 1 tandem of Paul and Phil Montano whitewashed Dieuvance Alexander and Jamar Arrington 6-0, 6-0 while the second doubles duo of Jim and Tom Chen shutout Lamar Jenkins and Salim Purks 6-0, 6-0 to complete the domination of the match. Two days earlier, Montville shutout a Caldwell team 5-0 that had entered the competition sporting a 10-2 mark. Simon Chiang rallied to defeat Lawrence Wei 5-7, 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) at first singles and his brother Tim posted a 6-3, 6-4 win over Phil Alito in the No. 2 singles slot. Geoff Pallay went three sets in defeating Chris Lohmamm 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 in the confrontation between third singles players. Phil Montano and Aaron White came on strong at first doubles to win 7-5, 6-0 over Tim Bergen and Mike Pirozzi while Jeff Bahng and Matt Tanwanteng coasted to a 6-3, 6-0 triumph over Chris Hanson and Adam Lantz at second doubles. Montville's distance medley quartet of Danielle and Courtney Stanton, Jenny Zurawell and Ashley Wolf, turned in a gold medal performance in the Morris County Relays on Saturday by posting the fastest clocking of 12:50.71. Erika Reichert turned in a hat trick performance to spur Montville to a 7-1 rout of Immaculate Heart Academy in a girls' lacrosse match played in Morris County on Friday afternoon. Nicole Roselle chipped in with two goals and an assist while Danielle Miller tallied a pair of goals to complete the scoring parade. Heather Condurso, Rita Meroni and Teresa Lam were credited with assists while goalie Kristen Realmonte turned in a strong effort in the circle stopping 6 of 7 official shots on the Mustangs' coral. John Petrozzino and Chris Racioppo legged out two-baggers but Montville could not contend with a strong Pequannock squad that upped its record to 15-1 by defeating the Mustangs 9-4 on Friday in Pequannock. The loss lowered Montville's overall record to 8-8. Two days earlier, Joe Ciraulo walked and scored the game-winning tally on Scott Roughgarden's RBI single in the bottom of the seventh as the Mustangs edged Caldwell 2-1. Rich Mayer went the route in upping his record to 3-1 as he scattered six hits and fanned eight. Lindsay Falk and Ashley Hulmes both doubled but Montville collected only four safeties in dropping a 7-2 decision to Caldwell in an NHC softball game on Wednesday. |
